Happy Appalachian Trailversary

Yesterday, March 24th, marked the four year anniversary of beginning my Appalachian Trail thru hike. 14 states, 2200 miles, 5.5 months. I still think about it most hours of most days.

My first trip to Jerry Johnston Hot Springs, a series of natural springs right along a creek. The water was like 7/10 hot, perfect for winter, significantly hotter when I dug into the sand where the heat is trapped. Earth is bizarre and wonderful.
Finally took a hike out to Jerry Johnson Hot Springs, a series of natural little pools in Idaho. There was space for a couple more people to join us and keep a responsible distance, but multiple groups opted for a more crowded pool presumably to avoid being around men holding hands. Thanks homophobia, more space to ourselves!
Some hiking pics from Lion Mountain in Whitefish, MT near where my boyfriend David lives. We went cross country skiing last weekend too, but I trusted myself 0% to bring my phone and not destroy it. I fall a lot.
Very sun-squinty, very happy. My first winter in Montana has shaped up nicely, even though I spend most of my time alone in a cottage. After such a challenging year, seeing these views and spending time with this beautiful bearded man feel even more special. I hope 2020 had some surprise highlights for you too!
Hiking along Flathead Lake in northwestern Montana. I’ve been hearing about the massive lake since I moved to MT and it didn’t disappoint. I took Pic #3 about 4 miles up a mountain trail and love how the blues of the lake, mountains, and sky blend into one another. I need to camp near this beauty before it gets too cold.
Some pictures from my overnight solo backpacking trip to Big Creek Lake, about an hour south of Missoula. I passed a group of four on horseback the first day before lunch and didn’t see another person until I neared the trailhead on my return hike the following afternoon. So far as I could tell, I had the whole lake to myself. These mountains and wildflowers were soul food. Especially the pink fireweed, my favorite plant!
