Saturn Returns Podcast Interview

Thanks for stopping by! I recently recorded an interview for my dear friend Gina’s podcast Saturn Returns. It is now available for your listening pleasure. Regular readers may recognize Gina as the person who suggested I hike the Appalachian Trail. I credit much of my current life situation to that casual phone conversation.

Late summer in Connecticut, rolling green fields in front of blue mountains.
Late summer in Connecticut. I felt a lot of gratitude to Gina during this stretch for inspiring me to experience so much of my beautiful country.

Saturn Returns is a podcast featuring personal stories with a clear before and after, often centered around major life challenges or revelations. I discuss how divorce led me to the AT, and in turn to my winter house sitting gig in Alaska. I also share what it was like hiking as a gay guy in a traditionally masculine world. I’m really happy with how it turned out!

You can find Saturn Returns episodes on Gina’s website here. I’m Episode 23: Northbound then Further North. You can also listen through the Apple podcast app.

I highly recommend following along with Gina’s adventures on her blog reginagbeach.com and Instagram @rgbeach. She’s regularly up to something wild. Last year alone included bushcrafting school in Maine, bicycle touring through Croatia, and a weeklong silent meditation retreat.

Check back later this week for Gina’s guest essay about living life on her terms and setting out to hiker her first long trail, the 500 mile Camino de Santiago (French Route) across northern Spain!

  1. Awesome interview, Jake! I love hearing your story out loud, in your voice. What did you use to record it? I’m looking forward to more 🙂

    1. Thanks for listening Nora! I recorded the interview on the iPhone Voice Memos app, using my standard headphone mic. The mic rubbed up my beard during initial recordings so I had to position it away from my face. I’m not sure what sound editing Gina did on her end. That said, I recently purchased some audio recording equipment for an upcoming project. You’ll be hearing a lot more from me in a few months!
